Green Burials are allowed at Wildwood Cemetery in most of the sections. Since Green Burials do not involve chemicals it is important for you to think about your funeral preferences ahead of time. Many of our local Funeral Homes are willing to work with you.
In a green burial the body is not usually embalmed, although there are "green" embalming fluids available if that is important to you. The burial container is made of biodegradable materials (soft wood, cardboard, wicker) or the body is wrapped in a shroud. There is no vault or cement grave liner and the container or body is placed directly on the soil to biodegrade naturally. Usually the headstone or marker is made from indigenous material. We do not have specific rules about the container, but the funeral homes have different requirements.
